It is with great sadness that I must report that Fred the Goose and all her ducks and chickens, except one hen, were tragically killed by a pack of coyotes. Unfortunately, coyotes are a constant threat to rural bird flocks and they hunt in packs during the night while humans sleep.

We will, however, keep Fred’s blog alive. Fred’s new chicks are scheduled to arrive at the end of April and the first of May. We’ll continue to share their daily life on the farm.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Today is Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Born Theodor Seuss Geisel on March 2, 1904, Dr. Seuss wrote and illustrated 44 children’s books.  He died on September 24, 1991.  One of my favorite Dr. Seuss books is, “Green Eggs and Ham”.  Did you know that I lay eggs?  They’re really big and they look just like chicken eggs.  They taste just like chicken eggs, too.  I haven’t started laying eggs yet this year but when I do, I’ll show you what they look like.

Today is also national Read Across America Day. Schools and libraries all over the United States are participating. One of my family members, Rynn, is in the first grade. His grandma is coming out to read with him this afternoon. If you want to read more about Dr. Seuss or Read Across America follow this link: www.seuseville.com .

Hello world!

Hello Everyone! Welcome! My name is Fred and I am a brown Chinese goose. A goose is a girl. How many geese have their own blogs? This is a new activity for me. Usually, I just keep an eye on my barnyard but I wanted to try something new. When was the last time you tried something new? My plan is to share my life as a country goose. You might think that nothing ever happens on a farm but that’s not true. Some things you just can’t make up. Like the saying goes, “Truth is stranger than fiction.” Check back for updates and feel free to comment or ask questions.
